Shakra at Tribal Fest #9
Thursday 10:15 am-12:15 pm

It's time to inject something completely fresh and innovative into your choreography….YOU!

Shakra’s Choreography Manual: A How to Guide on Building a Captivating Choreography
Does tab A always go in to slot B when it comes to choreography? Can't the manual just be thrown out? Not this Manual! Come with Shakra and explore the nuts and bolts of constructing a distinctive and captivating choreography.

This class is less focused on technique and more on bringing ingenuity and inventiveness into your performance. That is; making your dance performance personal, narrative and uniquely yours. The stumbling block many dancers find is taking their skill acquired by instruction or study and developing an engaging and personal choreography. In Shakra's performance on the Gothic Belly Dance: Revelations video, they introduced three creepy and note-worthy characters created from their love of all things evil and wicked. What started out as a shared love for a certain "Hush." episode, became a finished dance production. In this two hour workshop, we will share with you our knowledge in making art from the heart (even dark hearts like ours) and then get you started down your own artistic path through visualization and imagination exercises. We will also discuss the fear that most artist can expect to experience on this path. Finally, we will work on a short, dark and theatrical choreography together, so you can apply your new knowledge in a practical application. Dancers who are eager to not just think outside the box but smash the box to pieces, this is the place for you. It's time to inject something completely fresh and innovative into your choreography….YOU!
